Where did, not just last year but, the seasons prior go? They disappeared into the ethers. We are still standing so let's make a difference.

We lost some great role models this year - like Jane Goodall. My favorite person who communicated with caring, love of animals, the earth and conflict resolution. She is the author of one of my favorite quotes about making a difference in the world - only you can decide on what that change can be. Pick something you are passionate about because it's for a lifetime. A blink of the eye really in terms of lifetimes. Post that priority where you can see it daily. A reminder to do better than the day before. Not a competition with others but rather a reminder to care.

My favorite person in history is Jesus. Not only is He the reason for the season but the reason for being. Allow yourself to have faith, hope and love. Faith in yourself for you are a part of Him. Hope that you can made a difference. Love for one another like He asked us to do. Can we believe not just for a season but rather for a lifetime? Be the best you as much as you can. One day at a time.

Have passion for your life. Let it lead you to learning, growth and love. Every day is a lesson. What can you learn and also teach by example? Stand up for your beliefs, be a symbol of truth, reach out, be you, make a difference for the better if not for everyone, even for you.

2026 requires a better world for the earth, animals, people and acting with good faith, hope and love. Go forth into this year with love in your heart. Take the caring and make it a way of life. Look to the future to change for the better.

Fall Forest Therapy

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/fall-forest-therapy

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/fall-forest-therapy#comments

Forest Therapy

Nature

Maria Lisa Polegatto October 2025 It's the weekend and I'm looking forward to bathing in the forest where beauty, magic and stillness abound! The fall is such a lovely time to be in nature as the leaves turn from greens to hues of reds, [...]

                                Maria Lisa Polegatto October 2025

It's the weekend and I'm looking forward to bathing in the forest where beauty, magic and stillness abound! The fall is such a lovely time to be in nature as the leaves turn from greens to hues of reds, yellows and browns preparing for winter.

Leaves are nitrogen for the soil. They blanket but also fertilize and nourish as they decompose over the seasons waiting for new growth buds to peek out and stretch up in the springtime. There is no need to rake up leaves from your lawn - nature's free ecosystem nutrients. Instead go out and marvel at their beauty, play in the leaf piles, mow them if you must to shred them, but let them do their job they take seriously as they cover the ground for it's winter slumber.

As I drive to my destination deep in nature, I enjoy the trees that line the roadways and seem to have even more brilliance than last year. At my destination I prepare for my trek with proper clothing for the season with layers that breathe, comfortable boots for hiking, and snacks for a long immersion in nature.

The birds never disappoint with their song and calling each other. I join in to talk to them in their language as best I can. As I call to the squirrels, I hear the whirl of the wings of a raven fly over and above me. While the forests are living ecosystems, we are often oblivious to life that exists among them. The fungi networks are running below the surface along with tree roots feeding and connecting to protect their family. It's a way of life that supports life on earth. Every organism and species having a purpose and benefit.

The wildlife, while not always seen, is sometimes heard - chickadees, ravens, squirrels, sometimes howls from coyote, both delight and can scare. It is their forest and they know it inside and out - the cracks and crevices hidden from sight. They have protection, awareness and food source we have since forgotten with the conveniences of urban lifestyles.

Walking along the bed of leaves on the trail, listening, breathing, experiencing, connecting with nature allows for resilience and the mind to relax and have new thoughts and ideas to pop in. It replaces the thoughts and stresses of everyday life. It's no wonder we walk away from the forest with such a refreshed and vibrant mind, body and soul.

While I am never alone, I can feel the warmth and invitation of nature reach out to me. Paws roam to experience every inch of the forest floor from trails to water with scents to delight. Snacks are better in forest and sometimes if you know for sure what you have found, nature can provide a banquet of berries bursting with flavor.

I recently heard - you only have to eat something once to know if it's safe! When in doubt, leave it there. Except for anything that doesn't belong in nature - plastics and such, we take along a mesh bag to collect and remove from nature that which can harm it.

My trip back home is never fast - it is slow and relaxing. Our breath is clearer as is our mind. While our body is sometimes tired from a long trek, it is refreshed and ready for the world. Until next time, we can wander into the forest and delight in its wonder.

What is Forest Therapy?

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/forest-therapy

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/forest-therapy#comments

Forest Therapy

Nature

Maria Lisa Polegatto October 2025 Into the forest I go ....to save my mind, heal my body and replenish my soul. There is nothing bett [...]

                             Maria Lisa Polegatto October 2025

Into the forest I go ....to save my mind, heal my body and replenish my soul.

There is nothing better than going into nature to refresh oneself and gain resilience. Forests have a special place in my heart and I understand why it was my Dad's favorite part of nature. After growing up in the country, nature is my greatest healer.

I still wander through the trees and trails marveling at all of the delights and gifts of nature from the fungi, mushrooms, tree species and wildlife. A forest floor filled with colorful fall leaves is both beautiful and nature's way of feeding the forest with nitrogen. Moss grown on dead trees and stumps intrigue me and decay into the soil to renew again. Old man's beard hanging from tree branches is medicinal and also appears as if the forest is magical. Have you even seen a tree that looks like it could be a talking tree in a movie? Roots grow deep in the forest.

To hike in nature is a refreshing "forest bath". But, did you know you can gain a deeper connection with nature and receive deeper healing? You can and it's called "forest therapy". It's where you connect, literally, with your senses to see, smell, taste, touch, and hear nature. You can see the beauty from the sun peering through the branches, taste blueberries, strawberries and cranberries, touch the bark of trees, smell the forest aroma and hear the wind rustle through the branches and the calls of wildlife.

A forest therapy guide will help you connect through a slow and mindful walk in nature paying attention to even the smallest details. How do you feel before and after your trip into the forest? Do streams and waterfalls excite you? Have you used nature's free tools to make art in the forest? Rocks, sticks, fallen leaves and flowers can create beautiful art works you can leave in the forest.

Keeping a nature journal can help you be creative by sketching your finds and keeping a diary of your visits. Did you know bees can indicate a water source is nearby? Crooked trees can be trail markers to indicate the direction to water or other important areas.

We are all a part of nature and nature is a part of us. We share this earth as guardians to protect, conserve and collaborate with nature. Let's do our part to make a positive difference in the world one day at a time - no matter how small our contribution fees - it is important - you are important. Nature will remind you of that. So how wise are we?

There are layers to peel back on the human species. It is not just who we are today, but what we were, where we came from, why we are here, when we arrived and how we go forward. Let's take a look at some of these layers .

Who are we?
We as wise man still wonder who created us and who is the most superior. We look for footsteps to see who walked the land first - humans or animals. In the area of species we are a part of nature which consists of many different species of plants, animals, organisms, etc.. We as humans think we are superior and run the planet, but really other species freely enjoy the earth alongside us and sustain the earth more than humans do. We are to be blamed, not applauded, for the current state of the earth.

What are we doing here?
Humans walk the earth with many different ideas, plans and dreams yet we shun difference. Unfortunately we destroy the planet trying to keep up with the Jones down the street, in the same city, Province/State, Country or world. We live in an economic world that is spinning out of control with days passing us by faster than we can keep up. Greed is rampant. Instead of working to love our life, we live to work. What do we live for when climate changes and burns our homes, floods our lands and there is no more oxygen or clean water? What are we doing to sustain future generations?

Where did we come from?
This part is really interesting. We talk about not living in the past or pining for the future but rather to live in the moment. But we dig up the past under dirt, rocks and even garbage piles to search for evidence of the history of the planet, humans and other species. We find the truth of how many species we have destroyed, yet we destroy more of these precious invaluable species who freely give of themselves to keep the earth healthy while we go on destroying everything on the planet. We need to know what we have lost but we need to take that knowledge and do better in the now for the future. We come from our roots that need to grow future generations.

Why do we need to know?
We are humans and humans are inquisitive creatures. We believe we are smart yet we destroy our only home. We explored the moon and now we are off exploring other planets light years away to move to, instead of conserving our planet. A planet that is still a mystery to us. We still find species previously unidentified on land and in water. While gravity grounds us, we are not grounded in the habit of conservation. Why do we not care about our children's futures?

When did we start the search?
When have we never searched the earth from daylight to dusk, overnight and into the next morning? We even search our dreams for answers and clues. We call our ourselves superior but does any of our life matter in the end? We run, relax, renew in the earth, where others will come later and dig up our bones to prove we were here. It is interesting information for sure. But when do we search for a better tomorrow for our planet? Many do but many do not.

How do we move forward?
Do we have enough faith to trust in the process of renewing the earth? Can we stand still long enough to take one step at a time without running over everything in front of us? Can we see the change in the world that needs to be made? Would we rather run about being blindfolded or learn to take steps before running into and over the future? How do we move forward when the earth is crashing down around us?

We need to have gratitude, enjoy the moments before us and practice peace with others. We need to love deeply our life, other species, the planet. We need to build trust with others and be fair in our dealings. Not just for ourselves but for others. We need to believe without seeing everything as we run past it. Other species need no proof to exist. While history is to be learned from, God has never needed proof to exist. Are humans, wise man, not wise enough to just believe in the future and act upon it for the betterment of future generations of all species?

Who we are, what we were, where we came from, why we are here, when we arrived and how we go forward requires much work one step at a time, one day at a time. As 2025 rolls by like a day went by and now it's nearing the end of January already, I think it's time for some timely (pun intended) answers.

First, lets look at us getting older as the has been the belief through the years.
According to Coffey (2025), age does have a factor in time measurement and we all don't measure time the same way. Our minds are different. As youth we run through life catching and learning like sponges everything we can. Every little new thing is a new experience. As we get older and more experienced, the things we encounter are not new anymore. They don't excite us anymore. We tend to get used to the hum drum of the world and pay less attention to things. Our minds send neurons zapping around our brains at different speeds. What was once new and exciting is now dull and draining.

Next, do you know about the earth's rotation change?
I have read the world is spinning faster now. The ebb and flow of the tides, the moon and the earth have constant pressures and are now reacting differently than they used to some 50 years ago. Instead of slowing down the earth rotation is now speeding up. Leap seconds have been added in the past to correct time but in future we may be using "negative leap seconds" (Science Nature, 2024)) instead. While this change might not be extremely noticeable to people daily, it is noticeable when time is needed to be measured to milliseconds.

Have you noticed the change?
What do you prefer to believe in relation to those two views? Is it us getting older or the earth rotating faster? .... Or both. Oh my gosh! It's both!

So what do we do to combat these changes?
We need to take a look at our lives at various stages and decide if the status quo is satisfactory or if we want to do something and start learning new things to bring back the zippity do da we had as kids and spark some excitement. Give us a reason to get up in the morning and run through the fields of life. Who says you can't teach an older person new things? We can all learn as we grow. It might just help us from some health issues as we age also. I'm willing to give it a try. How about you?

My first go to is always nature. Go outside and enjoy the natural environment that is always changing and growing around us. From day to day there are new delights to trigger your senses. From a walk on the beach to a walk in the forest. You can even sit and enjoy a picnic outside, even on your deck and watch the birds, squirrels and bees at work.

Get out of your comfort zone and try sometime new. A new hobby, a new recreational activity, a new friend, going to new places. What is your new something for the year that you have been thinking of doing but have been too stuck in your comfort zone to do? Now is the time. Ophs, it's now a new day. Don't miss out on new opportunities. Make a plan, stick with it, try it out.

Further Reading

Earth is now spinning faster than it did 50 years ago (Coffey, 2025)

The scientific reason years get faster as we get older – and how to slow them down (Science Nature, 2024)

Happy New Year!

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/happy-new-year

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/happy-new-year#comments

Uncategorized

by Maria Lisa PolegattoHappy New Year! Blessed to be given a new day, a new year. 2025 unfolds. What is the year going to hold? Only time will tell in reality but we can do our best to be our best this year. Spend your time in the present moment so the days don't whiz on by too fast.

On the world stage is an interesting year ahead. The war between Russia and Ukraine is ongoing :( Trump is beginning office soon with tariffs in mind to be placed against Canada and vice versa. Canada's Prime Minster, Trudeau, who had to step aside as did the USA, Biden. I thought Biden's comments about Trudeau were so fitting for a President to convey to another world leader - "the world is better off" because of Trudeau. Even if you don't like either leader, respect the fact that they are/were world leaders who know what it is like to have that kind of pressure everyday and still show up everyday. I'm not going to get political with this post as life is not about politics but rather being a good person.

And as if we need anymore wars or tariffs or taxes or price hikes. As citizens we are already taxed at alarming rates. Food is outrageously priced but we buy it anyway to eat. We need to stand up and refuse to pay these prices but what are the alternatives to eating? Especially if you want to eat healthy. I love to buy on sale as I work hard for my money. Spend your money wisely.

Today, society values material things. Auctions with items going for millions of dollars on famous people's clothing, instruments, and things, just things. We can't take any of it with us when we go. It gets left behind for others to throw out or sell off or keep as mementos. What would the millions of dollars do to feed hungry people, house families, help wildlife and nature. Healthcare is in critical state. There are any number of things a million dollars could be used for. Is it enough? Probably not. But there are many millions of dollars being spent on frivolous things. Could we spare some to help others, animals, wildlife, nature? It takes each of us to make a difference. Make 2025 a year you decide to live with passion, meaning and purpose to do things that make you feel good inside not just look good on the outside.

Fake news, of course, will continue on. I think that's why citizens have taken to their cell phones to convey real visions and messages to the world. Gossip and rumors run faster than any truth. Let the wolves howl at night. Always tell the truth anyway. Love thy neighbor. Do onto others. Be kind to other humans, animals and nature.

This year will go by just as fast as last year and while each year seems like it goes by faster, does it? Are we just getting older and slowing down with aging? Or are we just getting busier and not noticing the time ticking by. Today cell phones, glued to our hands, are not just distracting with instant messages and social media but it sucks you in and time passes by with what seems like seconds could be minutes, then hours later. It can be good if you are in the waiting room for hours to have something to do though. Take the good with the bad but focus on the positive.

This year, I have some plans to organize and use social media less in terms of scrolling. My house is changing locations of items and even between floors. It was different than what school is teaching these days. It was Acadian French. The original French from France. Learn about your heritage and you will discover many things that will amaze you.

I have also started a new health journey to lose a few pounds - 10 at least would be nice, 20 even nicer. I'll take what I can get and not stress about filling out my clothes - as long as they fit, lol. I am eating more of the foods that burn fat, like ginger, cinnamon, lean meat or fish, food nutrients but some chocolate has to be in the mix. Feed your body with healthy nutrients.

I always wake up in the morning feeling blessed to have another day. Be yourself everyday and you will find good things in the world when you look for them and appreciate when you find them. We need an earth to call home. One that is livable, sustainable, safe for habitat that provides wellbeing for all.

I woke up this morning dreaming about saving the owls that I read about this week that now face extinction through human hands - owl snipers! I see no sense in killing off species when we are already sending hundreds to extinction each year through destruction of habitat. I have found I use the word human when people do things that hurt my soul.

Today I stand with the owls, and not just the owls, but also the wild horses, bears and every other species we as humans have killed on this earth for no good reason. We need to STOP THE KILLING! There are alternatives to consider.

The bears were coming into towns to eat. Can you blame them? Humans have destroyed their habitat to take over the land for their own habitat. We don't live in peace with species, we humans take over. That is not the role of guardians. Why was there not an orchard built in the forest for the bears and other species to enjoy in peace? I am sure the bears don't want to interact with humans. They are simply hungry and built up enough courage and hunger to search for food to eat and feed their young.

The wild horses have roamed the plains for decades with many a war won on the backs of these hers and now that humans want to take over the horses domain, humans decide to kill off the horses or reduce the herd size which creates future genetic issues of diversity or break up the families they know and send them off in airplanes to be slaughtered in other countries. How do we know we are not being fed that same meat coming back into our country? Senseless acts of cruelty with no other reason but to destroy and dominate.

And now enter the plight of the owls. Yet another human plight to dominate. The barred owls are not destroying the spotted owls, humans are. Climate change is. Loss of habitat and food source is. With the barred owls taking over the territory of the spotted owls, can you think of no better way than to kill 100,000s of barred owls. I am appalled. Ask a group of children for ideas. They are the future humans of this earth and have a right to decide. Young but creative, innovative and sustainable minds. Why can the spotted owls, being outnumbered and endangered, not be moved to another location? The barred owls moved into their location and are surviving. The money being spent on ammunition alone could be used to rescue the spotted owls and relocate them.

Why can we not see we as humans are killing the earth? It is not the owls, bears and wild horses or other species except the human species. Removing species that are keeping the earth healthy with their free ecosystem transfer of nutrients is outstandingly reckless. The trampling in ecosystems creates new growth, the contributions freely made provides nutrients to the earth humans can not. Please do your research on the benefits of species before killing off species. Read Eat, Poop, Die by Joe Roman for starters - my favorite researcher. Read the section of my research project, Deep Dive Into The Ocean Ecosystem with the Giants, about the interconnectedness of species and organisms.

We need to focus on the bigger problems on earth - climate change, hurricanes wiping out ecosystems, homelessness, war to name but a few major issues we as humans have created. And while we are good at trying to fix things, species is not one of our strong points as past and existence evidence suggests.

But then again, in the long run, we humans will not have to worry about any issues as we are creating the extinction of ourselves by taking actions that create weather and species issues, war, and destruction. Let us instead focus on peace, interconnectedness, common ground, getting along, collaborating, floursing for the wellbeing of all, and being guardians of earth to protect, preserve and conserve.

Let us stand together with species we are a part of. We are nature, we are species, we are protectors. Let us repeat this to ourselves for the next thirty days and onward to create this though process as our common belief and habit to do good on the earth and to other species. We can do this!

Book recommendation

Book recommendation on the interconnectedness of species

Further Resources

Bears

Canmore paying residents to remove fruit trees to help reduce bear encounters

Romania to cull 500 bears to curb overpopulation after deadly attack

Owls

Wildlife officials plan to kill hundreds of thousands of barred owls to save spotted owls

Wild Horses

BLM to remove ‘excess’ wild horses from Utah’s beloved Onaqui herd

#humanity #anthropocene #earth #conservation #peace #species #guardian #owls #wildhorses #bears #book #author #soapbox #mission

The Choice

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/the-choice

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/the-choice#comments

Uncategorized

by Maria Lisa PolegattoWe all have a choice in this world to do what we do, choose what we want, to go where we want. We need to choose wisely because our choices can affect others. Think before you leap.

On this day, God sent one of his messengers to test man and man was given a choice to pick one of three that stood before him to save before the world ends. The messenger's great voice came forth and said to the man:

"You can choose to save man, an elephant or giraffe. Which do you choose?"

The man looked before him and thought, the giraffe can reach up so very high, the elephant is so big and can carry me, man has been so greedy and destructive. After contemplating, he chose and replied:

"I choose them all."

The great voice says, "You can pick only one.".

The man replied, "I did".

The great voice asks, "Ok, please explain yourself. "

The man went into an explanation of the benefits of the giraffe and the elephant to not just their own ecosystems but to other ecosystems too, and not just in where they live but in how they connect to all ecosystems.

"Ok," the great voice said, "that is correct" and then asked about the decision to save man.

The man explained that humans have been greedy and destroyed the planet but not all are destructive and some see the need to unify the world to save it.

"Yes", the great voice agreed and again asked which the man wanted to choose and again the reply from the man was all of them.

The great voice said, "You don't understand, you can only save one of the three "

The man replied, "It is you that does not understand. All of God's creatures are important and must work together to make sure the world is healthy and strong."

Again, the great voice agreed and then demanded an explanation.

The man said something so profound that changed the fate of the world. The plants began to thrive, the air began to clear of smog and the water became clear and sparkled. The animals in the world became free and felt safe. Man became true guardians of the planet.

The messenger then went back to God and said man finally did good.

What did the man say that allowed him to pick all three before him?

"We are all one. We need each other to live, not just in harmony but for the longevity of the planet and all species for future generations. We can't do it alone. Saving one will destroy the planet. As the world opened up, so too did our hearts begin to have hope.

As January started, so did the snow! That's ok with the dogs as they will enjoy a good beach outing any time of the year. Another year unfolding and hope springs eternal.

As Russia invaded Ukraine in February, I doubt anyone in the world was unaffected. War in these days of age, come at a high price globally as war always does. While we pray for this event to be over, it still rages on. With it are increasing gas, oil, food prices and so many more. My wish is for communication and peace to prevail. While Ukraine will never be the same, neither will the world. On the brink of nuclear war at times, is not a place our world needs to stand. I stand for peace, love, not war, yet, here we stand as many citizens of both Ukraine, Russia and surrounding countries are affected to the point of leaving their homelands. We can't imagine what that feels like until we go through it. While Canada is welcoming, I can't imagine what a shock it must be for people to move and live here in our harsh winter climates not being used to the same - the freezing old, ice, snow, raw winds and the combination of all. Even we Canadians have a hard time of it but we persist as we must and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. While the weather is gloomy and snow storms, I started growing tomatoes inside - I love cherry tomatoes. I could eat them one after another.

The ides of March is always a time to watch. Oh Caesar! This year I turned it around and joined Cape Breton Search and Rescue. I thought I could take my dogs but that's not part of this service. I'm staying anyway! I thought I knew how to hike in the woods but this is so much more and with people who like to hike in the woods at night. I've found my people!

April had Dad back in the hospital. Such a busy time visiting morning, noon and night but such a blessing looking back to have had been able to spend this time with him these next few months chatting about everything and anything. He seemed to gain some kind of knowing about world events before they happened. He'd tell us about an accident or event and then within a few days we would hear it on the news. I learned not to question.

In July, my Superhero died, my Dad, after a long battle in and out of the hospital since last year. Coincidently he was in the same room as my mom many years ago in ICU. I am still deeply affected by this loss as anyone who has lost one or both parents are. I could always count on my Dad for the best advice, his knowledge, his compassion, his experience growing up in Mira. He worked on his family farm and at 12 he was recruited to run a Crusher/Wash Plant. I did an assignment on him in University and when I asked him if the men listened to him as a boy leading them, he said he never had any problems. He was a quiet but strong man in spirit and family love. When my mom passed on in 2008, none of us would ever be the same. While I miss both of them dearly, I am comforted that they are both together again in spirit form.

At the end of August was Dad's birthday. I thought I was going to be alright but the tears started to flow and weren't stopping anytime soon so I took the afternoon off and picked up dinner and headed to the cemetery to have lunch with Mom and Dad on the lawn right in between them. I took some of my Doterra essential oils to drop onto his grave - the ones his Dad would have used as a child - bergamot from Italy and lime as they had lime juice all the time growing up. I also found out lemon and peppermint in the toilet help keep it clean and also flush when it doesn't want to. Don't ask for story on that! lol.

Fiona came to visit in September and did she ever make her presence known. As she swept up the coast and into Canada, she took Cape Breton hostage and whipped her winds around the communities taking away our power, some homes, trees were uprooted all over town, power masts were torn off homes, emergency shelters were set up, Red Cross was called in with food and the list goes on. Volunteering for Red Cross was a blessing. I have the best neighborhood that helps each other out. I can't imagine being a wild animal in the woods that night. I was lucky to have my son come and fix me right up. I still have damage that needs to wait to be fixed until the spring of 2023.

Our Queen Elizabeth, died this September. She is now resting with her dearly beloved. We have a King for a change. Paperwork is flying as Her Majesty the Queen - HMTQ changes to His Majesty the King - HMTK.

In October, I thought my birthday would be fun. I did spend it with family but it was very different than past ones. I just surpassed 36 years this fall at work as a Paralegal. Where did that time go? Living the dream! Then I got the dreaded virus. I had wondered prior if I had it and didn't know it. Now I know I didn't as it is truly unique in how you feel. I felt like 1000 elephants were on top of me all piled one on top of the other. I was lucky to have Rob call me during the day and night to get me moving and drinking liquids. My favorite drink now is hot water, lemon, honey and ginger that he suggested. Yummy and healthily!

By the end of the month in October, I had a visitor, my real life Travis (as in my book), and boy did we do a lot of work at my house, enjoyed the great outdoors with the dogs and kindled a great relationship. We had so much fun. We even planned and did some outside work on my yard to compost and work on saving the planet one step at a time. When I was off in November, he came back again and we got even more things done. We did sleep but looking back, I think it was because we did so much we had to, lol. We worked, ate great, visited family and friends, took drives, took the dogs to the ocean, changed out my old furniture with new used pieces we were lucky to find, recycled some other pieces I had and so much more. I love a great deal. Why buy new pressboard when you can buy old solid wood pieces with character.

By the end of November, more family was in town. Unfortunately another death, my Aunt Jean. It is always so great to have a family reunion but so sad as to the reason why. Catching up with friends and family was a bonus and seeing how kids grow up so fast. Where do the days go?

Inflation is on the rise. Don't get me started. We already have high prices for supplies and now the interest rates are going up to try to fight the increase in housing prices!!!???!! Could the people who make these rules, reach out to the common folk to get a real opinion? Increasing interest rates is not stopping people from moving to Nova Scotia who are paying cash after selling their homes in other provinces. Homelessness is on the rise while the wealthy get more interest on their money in the bank. Shhh, least me complain and get kicked out of Canada as a French Acadian as the Expulsion was never rescinded in Canada as it was in England.

I started doing craft shows this fall with my art from the heart. I love meeting people so it was a great adventure. I had tried watercolor as a child and never did get it right but trying again, it took my delight. I took my paintings and introduced them to the world. I was pleased at the response as an artist never really knows without feedback. I also started crocheting and while I'm no expert, I can do dishcloths. What a great stress buster in every stitch. Maria Lisa Polegatto Creative Studio was born. I learned my new niche - visual artist on top of author. Oh how wonderful it sounds to be so but there's a reason they refer to such as starving artists, lol. It's a great hobby and I'd be happy to help you get started sketching, drawing, doodling, art, meditations and more.

Christmas was quiet but I love that. Relaxing is under rated. After falling on the street after a snow storm and busting up my ribs, I was due for some rest and healing. Besides, Christmas is best spent with family and I truly look forward to seeing my son's big blue sparkling eyes and beautiful smile every time I see him. He makes my day. He is truly my greatest blessing in life. Having time to learn to play my harp better is so relaxing and harmonious even to the dogs.

We were looking at the trip to Trinidad with Canadian Sea Turtle Network until I remembered I can't take my dogs with me. Boy would they have fun romping though airports and beaches! Ha. Tilly is such a darling at 6 years old and Bella is still growing and testing her limits at 1 1/2 years. Lucky for me they both sleep well at night and keep me warm, one on each side of my bed at night. While Tilly would lick someone to death, Bella is not to be messed with - true to her german shepherd roots a bit too much. More training for me.

Volunteering has been busy this year. With Marine Animal Response Centre I had an opportunity with friends to go to a dolphin find recovery for necropsy for science. All the information can lead to discoveries about the species, their diets, food sources and more while at the same time so disappointing to see one not survive. With Cape Breton Search and Rescue, we had many events this year and while I can't talk about the searches, I can say we did lots of training, wellness checks, bbq, and had our first annual ATV run in August. It was a beautiful hot day. There was a great turn out and lots of laughs where had by all and new friends were made. We pride ourselves on being an inviting group of people.

I am excited going forward into 2023. I just created an Ocean Planner & Journal that I will be launching very shortly in connection with my whales research project. I'm just waiting for the publishing to be finalized. If you want one, I'll get you hooked up. It's got lots of animals included along with some education and activities to relax you on your busy daily life.

I will be working on the sequel to my first book, "Thundering Mountain Ranch, As Feathers Fall", to publish this year. I just published the first edition to hard cover. Another project I'm working on is a Mosaic Tile for the Canada Connects- Global Roots project. I haven't decided what I'm going to paint on my tile yet but I'll have to find out before January 31, 2023 deadline to send it in.

We are all in this world together. Let's all get along and help one another. Be kind, be humble, be unapologetically you! Don't let people try to change what makes you truly you.

I wish you all many blessings, joy, happiness, good health and prosperity throughout this year.

Cheers,
Lisa

Earth Energy

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/earth-energy

https://www.marialisapolegatto.com/articles-by-maria-lisa-polegatto/earth-energy#comments

Uncategorized

by Maria Lisa PolegattoThe root of my existence comes straight from the earth. Before you know it, your furry master has trained you into their very own dog parent. There is no comparison to how your house is full of love just by having your dog inside oozing their pure love everywhere.

While their fur may get stuck on your clothes, just know that's their way of staying with you all day. He took a piece of Himself and wrapped it in fur so we would know what divine love is, how to feel it, and see it in action. The love He has for us is conveyed to us in the eyes of a dog who loves us more than life itself. We have the best companions that teach us joys and sorrows as they stand by our side no matter the dilemma. It calms the mind and heals the soul while giving balance as it raises vibrations to a higher level to connect to the natural world. As my journey takes me deeper into its reach, each tree, flower and petal reach out to me like the hand of God inviting me to come closer and see the uniqueness he creates in each of His masterpieces, including each of us.

As I approach the wild roses, I see the buds tightly wrapped insulating themselves from the harshness of the world. As the weather warms, it encourages the buds to let go of their grip to allow them to share their inner beauty with the world. One by one, each petal tenderly unfolds to reveal the next layers protecting it while also nurturing it. As the delicate inner beauty is exposed, its aroma comes forward to fill my senses with the divine love He created it with. When the weather turns cold the petals protect it from the harsh surroundings to keep it safe to bloom another day. Just like the wild roses, we are free to enjoy the miraculous beauty nature affords us as we sway in the wind waiting for encouragement to let go of fears and express our individual beauty.

My emotions are balanced in nature and as my vibration rises higher. I too want to protect nature from the harshness of the world like it is my child that God has greatly blessed me with. A good cry can be good for clearing out feelings that need to come out. Let yourself feel your emotions. It can be healing to do so. But also look at things to see what lesson or changes you need to make in life to deal with situations as they arise. Look at any positive ways you can deal with circumstances.

It might not seem like there is positivity in the world sometimes but things will pass. Keep your thoughts clear and concise on changing as need be. Give thanks and gratitude for the blessing in your life, even the ones you don't realize are blessings at the time. He lifts my thoughts as I lift my heart up to Him and he warms my soul with His love.

I find keeping the truth in mind is the best course of action. Get to know the facts for He is always there in the truth. Stand tall, be still and listen to His voice in the wind as He reaches out to you to lead you to calmer waters. No matter how my day or week unfolded, nature has a way of putting all the pieces together in ways that make sense. It reminds me what is important; life. Everywhere you look in nature, it shows you how it balances its own ecosystem. Every species and organism helps another to survive and thrive. We can learn a lot from nature. It gives and it takes. As should we. Too much of either puts us out of balance. We need to be grateful when we receive help and in turn help others.

While I walk through life, Thou art with me all the days of my life, and I with you my Lord. The symphony begins as I step out into nature with the waves crashing, the birds singing and the squirrels chattering.

While the eagle sits and watches us meander along the shore, we are blessed with one of God's greatest gifts to humanity that needs no changing, no charging, no inference. Nature as it is, as it was, as it will be. Welcoming, warm and wonderous. I am in awe each visit. My heart is overfilled with His greatness and I return to the world in balance and ready for another day. The vital components of the ecosystems are falling apart and failing to keep up as humanity spins its wheels to get ahead of each other. Instead of being takers of care, we need to care for our earth.

As the world turns the dial into 2020, we are still in need of stabilizing our thoughts, beliefs and lifestyle to meet the requirements to come to the realization we have created this disaster. Knowing that God is always near, guiding and reminding me through thoughts, synchronicities and events lets me relax and enjoy the world around me. When I am in nature, the living world calls out to remind me I am in His masterpiece. We are all but a small reminder of His divine Spirit that walks among us every day. Each one of us was born with the Light that only He can spark within us. Knowing we all have that in common should unite us in a better world for humanity and raise our vibrations into one of the greatest blessings of His love.

Spending time in nature always makes me feel grateful, blessed and loved. As I prepare for my hike, the squirrels chatter among themselves and wait for me to fill their stash with seeds and nuts by their favorite tree. While the bark has fallen, the tree is home to life that scampers through its branches reminding us that while it may look forlorn, there is beauty dancing all around us. It is the sweetest things in life that remind us to look ahead and up in life so that fear falls away and leaves us exposed to the love that is within us. Let that love well up inside and enjoy all that Spirit offers.

Let love fill your life with the blessings that even you don't realize are blessings until they are set out before you. Concentrate on happiness that lifts you higher. Reach the peak that has no end and keep climbing. Love has no end. It radiates within and then outward to share with others in harmony. While we have the choice to love or fear, fear has no love within it.
