"I included steel cut oats in my canine's cancer diet. Although they require more energy to digest, they have a lower glycemic index than rolled oats." Maria Lisa Polegatto

Getting Healthy With My Dog - Take The Good With The Bad

"When dealing with canine cancer, you have to take the good with the bad. For all Whiskey has had bad days, she has also had good days where she skips around the block on her tippy toes like she was a puppy again. God bless the good days and thankfully she's had more good days than bad."  Maria Lisa Polegatto

Getting Healthy With My Dog - A Note From Whiskey

I am happy to announce that I have had some tumor lump shrinkage. I am still working hard on my journey to heal further and using many modalities to convince this cancer it's got to move out for good! While I am enjoying a good appetite, going for walks and getting massages, this cancer still sucks sometimes. I am staying positive though. Thank you to everyone who is helping me on this journey. I really appreciate all the support, healing energy and love."  Whiskey "Sugar Plum" "Darlin" "Hun" "Furry Love" Polegatto

"Another modality to use against cancer is acupressure.  According to Are Thoresen Liver point 3 in both human and canine breast cancer have been shown to shrink cancer tumors using acupuncture.  While this research was found in relation to acupuncture treatments, which I have also used, I am also using Liver point 14 along with Liver point 3 for acupressure massage treatments on my furry love to add daily benefits."  Maria Lisa Polegatto

"When God created coconuts, he held them high up to the sky so they would grow full of the love that would nurture all living beings with the ability to fight off the many ill effects of our earthly life.  Fighting cancer requires a multitude of approaches. Coconut oil has a multitude of uses that slips past cancer to nourish the cells and can improve the body's ability to absorb cancer fighting Omega 3." Maria Lisa Polegatto

Getting Healthy With My Dog - Beneficial Oils v. Fats

16/1/2016

"When dealing with cancer, we add healthy fats to the diet. When we talk about fats we mean healthy fats like omega 3 oil fatty acids such as fish oil and krill oil from cold water fish, not fats that we eat that make us fat. We look at the eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels. Cancer patients need higher levels in their diets. While feeding your dog flax oil can help with ear health, it might not be absorbed enough to be beneficial to deal with cancer. Sardines packed in water and oil are also a favorite with my furry love." Maria Lisa Polegatto

"Often you will hear someone got cancer and got sick but with cancer, you get sick and then get cancer and other illness. The best approach is to look after any illness that you have so cancer that lurks in the cells can not step into high gear."  Maria Lisa Polegatto

Getting Healthy With My Dog - Cancer Research

"For the many times cancer has tried to overcome the health of my dog and has proved a worthy opponent, we have rallied and researched side by side and found more ways to rise again to defeat this emotional monster lurking behind the walls of cells. Although the onslaught continues, so too does our courage hold steadfast in our plight to right the Light and prove nature's goodness overcomes all as does the protection in the Light." Getting Healthy With My Dog - Apoptosis

"Medically, Merriam-Webster defines this natural happening of events which gives hope in the fight against cancer. The Greek origin of the word by Oxford helps understand that apoptosis creates the "falling off" of cells. Encouraging apoptosis through the consumption of certain foods increases the body's chances to allow the cancer cells to fall off allowing for new healthy cells to grow and thrive."   Maria Lisa Polegatto

"When researching Bach Flowers for my dog's breast cancer, I decided on using the Oak Bach Flower remedy. I firmly believe animals have a keen sense of all knowing. My dog's favorite tree is the large oak in our back yard. She can sit under it for hours and encourage me to do the same. If you listen to your animals they can tell you many things."  Maria Lisa Polegatto :)

Getting Healthy With My Dog - Commercial Dog Food

"I asked myself when the amount of food I fed my dog came out after digestion, what is being retained for nutrition? Is she gaining weight on nutrients or inflammation?  When I started feeding my dog quality food that she and I put loving care into making, the amount that came out was much less. At first I was on alert that her stools were much less because that can be a sign of blockage. I was used to at least a bag a walk but now I get much less, even just a bag a day. She has more energy, her eyes are brighter, she skips around the block. She has lost some weight but her loving heart grows even bigger."  Maria Lisa Polegatto

Getting Healthy With My Dog - Herbs

"Two of my favorite herbs to grow in my kitchen all year round are basil and oregano. These are nature's gems that your dog will love also. A few clippings can be broken down with your fingers and then cut up with herb scissors to add to food to avoid a choking hazard and offer immune boosting goodness to both you and your dog. Oil of Oregano is another version we both use."
