Maria Lisa Polegatto April 22, 2026  Today I was listening to a radio discussion, on education and how to motivate students to attend and engage in school—how to help young people not just show up, but actually connect with learning. It made me reflect on my own experience in school.

In a region defined by waterways like the Salmon River and Mira River, the connection between land, water, and human activity is never far away. A place where nature replaces pavement, and awareness replaces routine.

 Whale fall I attended in Cape Breton, NS Whales are among the most intelligent and socially complex marine mammals on Earth. Despite this, they face increasing pressure from human activity, including industrial shipping, pollution, and large-scale environmental change (World Wildlife Fund, n.d.; International Whaling Commission, n.d.).
