Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education
Entrepreneurial education is a familiar term to me; however, enterprise education is a term not so often heard. My first thought was what is the difference? Can I combine both? Would both make for a better entrepreneur? I need to find out more.
Both provide involvements to support “behaviours, attributes and competencies” for impact on students toward a successful career (QAA, 2018).
To instill excitement and pride into students can be a motivator to those interested in becoming entrepreneurs and can be core to students to achieve and learn as they grow, make mistakes, jump hurdles, improvise, and reflect and act (TEDx Talks, 2018). Many people can do more than they initially believe they can, including creativity, especially when they are motivated to do so (TEDx Talks, 2018). Students can realize they can make their dreams come true, make decisions, implement ideas, find ways to work around any challenges they have, and make their ideas come to reality and build skills and implement them (TEDx Talks, 2018). Is this all it takes to be an entrepreneur? No, it takes a lot of dedication, hard work, sweat equity and more.
In the career sphere entrepreneurial education benefits do not stop, we can find the avenues that inspire people most and build on those skills so they are working at a high level of motivation without burning them out. We all need a work life balance that can be unique. For me, I find being creative, being in nature and having animals a part of my life skills that recharge me and make me more resilient to show up at work refreshed. Having animals come into our workspace from time to time, plants and flowers growing in the office, being creative and helping others, are ways to bring some resilience benefits to work. What are the ways that bring you to a place of resilience? Can you incorporate any of them into your workspace?
In teaching how to read, I find learning what interests the student have and letting them pick a book that interests them a great incentive to motivate them to get started and succeed. Technology can also help in reading a book aloud with the student following along the words or using technology to ask for definitions, spellings, or pronunciation of words. Youth can learn new ways of being as well as adults, such as technology advantages and adaptations, which can benefit them in many ways from learning generally to involving them in deep learning (Fullan & Langworthy, 2014).
Gaining confidence can encourage mindset and having resources builds skillset. Building upon passions with motivation, determination, skills, education, and perseverance can build great leaders and we need leaders to build a better world for all. We need to find ways to inspire people to use their unique skills to make their unique positive change, whether enterprise or entrepreneurial educational skills or both, to help others and the world as we know it expand, adapt and survive in our current environments.
- Enterprise education can be used as a tool for preparing students for changing environments through “placements and activities” building links between “academic institutions and external organisations” (QAA, 2018).
- Entrepreneurship education, on the other hand, and entrepreneurial capacity is not simply correlated to employment and leads to competencies for a “rewarding, self-determined professional life” which allows for adding “social, cultural and economic value to society” through activity (QAA, 2018).
- Both enterprise and entrepreneurship education can lead to impacts for the academic institution and build credibility through new external connections with “growth-orientated organisations” (QAA, 2018).
- Entrepreneurial education can be used as a ‘catch all’ term that incorporates both enterprise and entrepreneurship, and the combination of both (QAA, 2018).
