Maria Lisa Polegatto - March 2024 Genius Hour Project: The Interconnectedness of Acorns, Ecosystems and Humanity Introduction. I am no genius but that is the benefit of a genius hour project to get us out of our mindset and into creativity. I love hiking with my dogs and the forest is one of our paths to resilience. Trees are but one of the commodities we rob from the earth for our own benefit without much thought toward the species it leaves homeless, including the loss of parent trees to tree communities.
Maria Lisa Polegatto - February 2024 I have a lot of passion about the topic of food. I grew up in the country, love being in nature and growing a garden has always provided me with a sense of freedom and connection to the earth. Food is not just tasty; it is an essential human requirement. However, it is also a global concern in the processes of production to consumption.
Maria Lisa Polegatto - February 2024 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education Entrepreneurial education is a familiar term to me; however, enterprise education is a term not so often heard. My first thought was what is the difference? Can I combine both? Would both make for a better entrepreneur? I need to find out more.
Maria Lisa Polegatto - February 2024 The planet we know is changing everyday and we need to be able to change with it to understand it, develop innovate solutions and implement them. While our world is changing our educational system is becoming more disconnected (Fullan & Langworthy, 2014). We need “learning partnerships” between students and teachers and deep learning tasks to restructure learning with the proper tools and resources in the midst of global technology that is also advancing at alarming rates compared to our educational system (Fullan & Langworthy, 2014).
Maria Lisa Polegatto - February 2024 Social Entrepreneurs: Entrepreneurship from a Critical Perspective With the current state of the economy and increasing prices of essential services, social entrepreneurs, needless to say individuals, are doing their best to find ways to support themselves and their families while also providing social support to their community. However, when entrepreneurism crosses over the line to neoliberalism, social issues can arise such as creating “gender, class and race inequality” (Lackéus, 2017).
Maria Lisa Polegatto - February 2024 Social Entrepreneurs While being a person who loves nature, hiking and volunteering for Canadian Sea Turtle Network and Marine Animal Response Society, the narrative is bigger as we learn more and grow in the process. I am intrigued by social entrepreneurs and how they manage to put in motion their action through various processes, steps and perseverance for success
Maria Lisa Polegatto February 2024 I have always been aware of library services from a young child with my mother introducing me to the world of books for personal reading, school projects, reading materials for professional means and general knowledge. A library is an example of a social entrepreneurial organization helping with the social issues of a community, such as health and welfare, economic development, technology, education, environment, and agriculture, in spite of these issues moving forward to adapt, emerge, and evolve in the process (Wesley et al, 2007).
Maria Lisa Polegatto January 2024 Sustainable Happiness and Entrepreneurship; Social Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurs can seize opportunities to make real and positive changes in the world through innovation of new ideas. This can sometimes come from a frustration inside oneself with the status quo not just for their own benefit but rather for the benefit of the disadvantaged masses and can be a for profit or non-profit basis (O’Brien, 2016). While this can occur as a result of an opportunity, it can also occur as a result of the necessity for change especially in underprivileged parts of the world and can take a great many skills, such as networking, initiative, decisions, engaging, creating, innovating, emotional, social, logical and everyday skills (O’Brien, 2016). The spirit of an entrepreneur to set their mind to focus on the task at hand until it is achieved. That is a great work ethic to have and pass along to others.
Maria Lisa Polegatto - January 2024 Entrepreneurial Spirit, Mindset and Moonshots For Innovation In this changing world we need to have courage to take risks for changes to occur (Alexandros, 2017). We need to shoot for the moon by: 1) identifying a huge issue to resolve; 2) finding a revolutionary approach to solve the issue; and 3) use technology for the solution to work (Capaldi, 2017)
