Family Trees of Life

16/8/2021

Some of the things I found so interesting when doing my family tree was the changes of names in ascendants and the different countries and cultures my family is connected to. I think if everyone globally could do their family tree, they would see how closely we are connected to other people of same or different cultures and countries and how we could really be talking to a relative at any time. Would that make you feel more comfortable and want to have less conflict in the world?

Marine Life

Humans should first learn how their impact is hurting themselves by destroying marine life that is keeping us alive in keeping our oceans healthy. Only then can they have a greater understanding of how humans survive in the first place - through healthy oceans that keep us healthy by the very living species being destroyed. Marine Mammals

Marine mammals are a vital part of sustainable oceans. While they do eat fish, they are also a necessary part of ecology to ensure the nutrients in the ocean waters are stirred up and distributed to other marine life to encourage growth of more fish.Whales are engineers of the ocean because of the many roles they play in keeping our oceans sustainable. Seals also have important roles in the oceans to help keep fish stocks healthy.   All marine life are necessary to keep the oceans healthy.

It's very rewarding emotionally and physically to hike at the ocean and do a marine watch, reporting findings to your local Marine Mammal Response Society where you can report any findings for stranded,  injured, dead or unusual activity of marine animals. In Nova Scotia, report to MARS - not the planet, the Marine Animal Response Society.

Right  Whales and marine mammals show us the right way to care for the oceans to keep oceans sustainable. Help keep them healthy so they can help keep us healthy. We need to work in unity with marine life, not in competition with it.

Visit my YouTube channel to watch marine mammal videos.  Warning, some have graphic content of seal remains found :(

Unite for the Greater Good

Divided we accomplish for our own good, united we accomplish for the good of humanity. Nature shows us how we can peer through the cracks to pull ourselves back to the reality of needing to live in a place of serenity, grace and acceptance of that we can not change, while also giving us the mindset to find another way to accomplish for the greater good of all. Come together and enjoy that which brings us all peace and unification.  Maria Lisa Polegatto

One piece at a time

Climate is changing, we can make a difference, one piece, one person, one day at a time. Maria Lisa Polegatto www.marialisapolegatto.com
Climate is changing and we are having to adapt to it everywhere in the world. In my home town, there is more wind, more rain causing flooding, more fluctuations of temperatures from day to day. I hear people saying, there is nothing I can do, I can't make a difference, but, yes, you can, we all can, collectively or even one at a time. Imagine the number of people in the world, if we took the time to pick up one piece of pollution anywhere you see it, one piece, one person, one day at a time, how powerful is that? It's exciting to think about it and more exciting for it to happen!  We can make a difference but we have to get outside and do it, one piece, one person, one day....at a time, it all adds up!   Maria Lisa Polegatto

Great Egret

A Great Egret, a rare find in Nova Scotia, Canada, likely blown in with a storm in April, 2018.Great Egret
The bird I saw at the ocean is actually a Great Egret, rare to find in Nova Scotia. Tilly and I were out hiking the ocean for Marine Animal Response Society which lead us to this guy, beautiful, but a little off course for Canada! Another sign of climate changing the environment.

Remember, stay safe in nature and keep nature safe.

Happy Mother's Day

Mabel, my Wild Sable Island Horse friend, untethered by the injustices in the world. Maria Lisa Polegatto Mabel, Wild Sable Island Horse
Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers in the world, including the Mothers in the animal kingdom.  This morning I awoke thinking about Mabel, my Wild Sable Island friend that lived at Two Rivers Wildlife Park until she passed at the age of over 30 years old. She also had me thinking about the Wild Sable Island Horses giving birth in the silent grace and beauty of nature at Sable Island, Nova Scotia, being blessed to become Mothers to their precious foals. I so loved Mabel with her wild but kind and kindred spirit. She gave me hope there are kind souls untethered by injustice in this world. Maria Lisa Polegatto

A View of the Ocean at Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, travel must see.
When I see this view, I know I am in for a memorable day, away from the stresses of the world. While it offers many delights of nature, it is also a reminder of the power of the ocean and how we need to keep our ocean environment sustainable for marine life and ultimately our own.  Maria Lisa Polegatto

"Tundra" the Reindeer

2/5/2018

Reindeer are not just for Christmas season.....they live with us all year round. You can hear a reindeer walking as their hooves go clickity-clackity just like in the Christmas carol but they don't need to be "up on the rooftop" for it to happen. Did you know that when their antlers are furry, it means their antlers are growing? The antlers fall off each year over winter and grow back again  in spring. When the furry felt falls off it is nutritious for other animals.  And their antlers are full of nutrients too. Thank a reindeer today for helping keep nature's circle of life alive and well where they survive the perils of nature to benefit the ecosystem.    Maria Lisa Polegatto

Basking Shark Bone

30/4/2018

Every trip to the ocean shows a different face to nature.  This weekend I found this rather bone like item that had washed up along the shore in low tide. I sent it into MARS - Marine Animal Response Society of Nova Scotia, and it appears it may be a Basking Shark bone. It is quite interesting indeed at 20" long along the outer curve. I am always amazed at how and what the ocean brings to land upon the shoreline. While this is interesting, it is also a bit sad to see as it once was part of a living mammal.

Celebrating the Earth

In anticipation of Earth Day, April 22nd, I hiked at the ocean to enjoy the delights nature holds in store, from the sea foam along the shoreline, to finding a favorite purple rock, to seeing the water is still flowing at the gut and seeing that other people are collecting trash at the ocean too! Thank you!

Do you see the image in the white of the rock? A man's face looking back at you! Whoever said rocks and nature is not alive, is wrong!  Nature is what, or should I say, who, sustains us :)
Seafoam along the ocean shoreline as the waves wash upon the rocks.
The water is still flowing at the ocean through the gut to allow the fish to swim between the ocean and lake.
I found the perfect rock at the ocean - purple, white and even has an image of a man in the white. Who said rocks are not alive is wrong!
Earth Day - so happy to see other people are picking up trash at the ocean too!
